Die Figur `Nechbet` basiert auf dem berühmten Foto `Starving Child` von Kevin Carter, das er 1993 im Sudan aufnahm. Das kauernde Kind trägt hier die Geierhaube der ägyptischen Göttin Nechbet, die als Schutzgöttin und Führerin durch die Wüste gilt. Die Arbeit entstand als Reaktion auf den wieder aktuell gewordenen Film `Der Marsch` (1990) von David Wheatley, in dem sich ein Strom nordafrikanischer Flüchtlinge auf den Weg nach Europa macht.

 

The figure `Nechbet` is based on the famous photography `Starving Child` by Kevin Carter, which he took in Sudan 1993. The crouching child wears the vulture head of the Egyptian goddess Nechbet, who is the patron goddess and guide through the desert. The work was created in response to the actuality of the film `The March` (1990) by David Wheatley, in which a stream of North African refugees set off to Europe.
